More Information

Are onion & garlic good together?

Yes! Onion and garlic are a classic flavor pairing. Our Onion & Garlic Tableside Sprinkle is flavorful blend of roasted garlic, onion, and minced green onion, and helps make cooking in the kitchen with this combo easier! Try as a replacement for salt to season a finished dish.

What is the difference between fresh garlic and garlic powder?

Garlic Powder and Granulated Garlic are milder than the harsh bite of raw, fresh garlic. Otherwise, fresh garlic and garlic powder can be cooked with interchangeably, unless of course the recipe calls for fresh instead of dried. About 1/8 tsp. of garlic powder is equal to 1 average size garlic clove. There is no need to rehydrate powdered garlic. For more on how to use garlic & its benefits, go Behind the Seasoning.

What does onion powder do?

Granulated Onion powder adds bursts of onion flavor, without all of the chopping! One Tbsp. is equal to 1/2 cup of fresh, chopped onion. Use dried Minced Onion as a sprinkle. When mixing onion powder into liquids, combine with water to form a paste to avoid unincorporated bubbles of dry spice. There is no need to rehydrate granulated onion.

Is garlic powder healthy?

Our garlic powder is pure garlic, so it's nutritionally equivalent to using or eating whole garlic. In addition to being a kitchen pantry must-have seasoning, it also has many health benefits – unless you have an intolerance, dietary restrictions, or allergies to garlic powder.

What is the difference between black garlic and regular garlic?

Black garlic is regular garlic that's just been fermented, or aged, until the garlic cloves turn black in color. This aging process turns garlic into a sweeter and richer type of garlic in flavor, which matches its darker color. Black garlic has an umami taste to it, and can be used in most of the same dishes where you'd typically use fresh garlic, although it's not meant to be a substitute. For more ways to use black garlic, read up on our How to Use Black Garlic blog post. If you're looking for an easy place to start with trying black garlic, our Black Garlic Salt is a customer favorite and can be used in many different cooking and grilling applications.

What's the difference between scallions, chives & green onions?

Scallions, chives and green onions have a lot of overlapping qualities, and are all part of the onion family. Chives are more delicate and mild, whereas green onions and scallions are sharper in flavor. Green onions and scallions can be used interchangeably in most cases, as the only main difference between the two tends to be whether they were cut from the green or white part of the onion bulb.
