Berbere Ethiopian Seasoning is a traditional Ethiopian spice blend that's fiery in flavor, though it can vary by region in heat level. Our Berbere seasoning's spiciness may not be as complex as typical blends, but it still provides both excellent flavor and authentic Berbere heat. Though commonly used as an Ethiopian all-purpose seasoning with meats, vegetables and lentils, Berbere spice is a main ingredient in flavoring stews of meat known as doro wat, wats or we’ts (stew with Ethiopian spiced chicken).

More Information

Folklore holds that the hotter and more delicious a woman’s Berbere spices are, the more highly regarded she was as a potential wife.
